VERY rare and original, 1860s Civil War Quarter Plate Cased Tintype Photograph of a United States Navy Sailor / Tar with a wonderful, Civil War Camp scene backdrop including an American Flag. This fantastic, period Tintype Photograph measures approx. 3 1/8" by 4 1/8" and features a full length portrait of a dashing, young Civil War Union Navy Tar in uniform with brimmed hat and sash belt. Neither the subject nor the photographer are identified in any way although the Tintype is housed in its original, pressed paper, hard case.

This very rare and simply fantastic, Civil War Tintype Portrait of a Union Navy Sailor is in excellent condition. The focus is sharp, the contrast strong and the tonality rich and warm. There are a couple of small and light scratches to the background area of the Image but no other damage to the plate of any kind - no scratches, no creases, no surface scuffing and no repairs of any kind. There is some solarization at the edges of the matt opening but overall this wonderful Tintype is exceptionally well preserved and displays beautifully. The pressed paper hard case appears to be original to the Image and is well preserved although repaired / reinforced at the hinge. A very rare and stunningly beautiful, 1860's 1/4 Plate Tintype Photograph of a Civil War U. Navy Sailor with a fantastic, patriotic photographer's backdrop and a fantastic addition to any collection!
