Cased Tintype or Ambrotype image of a handsome Civil War Soldier in uniform, possibly a Naval Officer Annapolis, MD or Newport, RI? This is a Ninth Plate size with hand-coloring in the cheeks and gold gilding on the buttons and also gilded gold rings on both pinkie fingers.

The brass mat and preserver are heavily embossed with fine details throughout. The image is quite clear with crisp details throughout. Just a minor imperfection near the soldier's left shoulder, difficult to photograph, but visible when held at a certain angle. The embossed leather-wrapped case has gilded edges and has an interesting "lyre-form" clasp mechanism. It has slight surface, edge and corner wear, as shown; and there is an early tape repair noted on the hinge side.

The clasp will need some type of adjustment to close properly. The interior maroon velvet liner with floral theme is still quite bold and vibrant.

Overall, a nice example with highly-collectible subject matter; appropriate for any collector of cased Civil War Photos. See photos for complete details and close-ups. Please consider them as part of the description. Image measures 2"W x 2-1/2"H overall. Case is approximately 2-3/8"W x 2-7/8"H x 5/8D.
