Extremely rare ninth plate daguerreotype of a handsome Civil War Naval Surgeon. His prominent hat boldly displays the insignia and 1 gold braid of Naval Surgeon. His shoulder strap along with the gold braid confirms the rank of surgeon rather than assistant. This image is quite rare as the daguerreian era was virtually over before the start of the war, and Naval images such as this are not common. A wonderful piece of Civil War Naval photo history!

Condition : The occasional speck or spot, otherwise very nice. Resealed with new glass and Filmoplast P90. Housing : Worn full brown leatherette case with avian motif, scattered bits of leather loss, split spine and nice red silk pad.
