RARE Civil War Photograph Framed US Sloop of War Tuscarora

  

Very unusual framed print of the USS Tuscarora, a sloop of war. The Tuscarora was built in 1861 and set sail for England in pursuit of the CSS Nashville. Most of her time in active duty was spent on the English and Irish coasts pursuing Confederate vessels. She continued service until June of 1864 when she was decommissioned. This is a framed photograph, with the previous owner hypothesizing that it was taken in the Baltimore Harbor.

Looks like the back was replaced with contemporary matte board but the photo has matting of the era. Measures 18 5/8 x 11 1/4. Black wood frame with gilt painted trim. Mat is a dull brown with U. Sloop of War Tuscarora at bottom.
