For your consideration is this lot of four, 1800's military photos. Two appear to be from the civil war, and two appear to be possibly a little later. The names on the back are: George A Shane Jr. I found several James R. Part two of the lot we listed earlier from the Christopher Latham Sholes family estate..

This listing is for the the four CDV Photos and the leather album shown in the photos. The album is in good condition, but the spine is separated and the front cover is literally hanging on by a thread.

I've never seen a leather album from this period with Brass Colonel Insignia before, and thought this might be of some interest to a military collector. Below is the info from our other (separate) listing - just in case you are interested in purchasing the other photos found in the album pictured, they are available in a separate listing.

Charles Latham Sholes - inventor of the "QWERTY" modern typewriter; his brother, Lt. Sholes, 36th Wisconsin Infantry Prisoner of War, and many other family members are included in this 23 photo lot. Most of the photos were taken in Wisconsin or by a Wisconsin-based photographer. A few are marked Philadelphia. Most are cabinet cards, some are tin types.

I do believe the Sholes brothers each wrote or signed their names on their respective photos, but there is no way of knowing for sure - other than different hand writing was used for each. Much can be found about Christopher and Charles Sholes and their contributions to technology and the modernization and advancement of our society. This is a spectacular find for the Wisconsin Historian, fan of the typewriter/keyboard, or a member of the Sholes family.

I should also point out there are several, short hand-written notes and clippings that will go along with this lot of photos that may help connect some dots. The item "1800's CDV Photo's James R.
