Antique 1860s Civil War Era CDV of Louis Fitzgerald 7th New York State Militia

ANTIQUE, NICE exceptional, authentic mid-1860s Carte de Visite depicting Louis Fitzgerald of the elite 7th New York State Militia. Fitzgerald is famously pictured here in his distinctive "in fighting rig" gray uniform, complete with his NCO sergeant chevrons sharply pointing upward on his sleeve. While a variant negative of this studio session in national archives shows him with a tobacco pipe, this specific print features the cleaner, formal version of his iconic studio pose. The reverse features the distinct printed backmark of Kraus & Hall, 685 Broadway, New York. Because this specific photographic partnership only operated between 1866 and 1867, it perfectly dates this print to the immediate post-war Reconstruction window.
