This BIG LOT of twelve one-of-a-kind nineteenth century tintype portrait photographs from the Civil War Era of the 1860s, or shortly before or after, includes a number of photographs that are expertly hand-tinted and framed under glass in period decorative tin frames and hard cases, as well as four others that are unframed. Tintypes were not usually colored as that entailed an additional cost, so I believe these to be fairly rare examples.

All appear to have been taken in a formal photographic studio. Most of these approximately 160-year old photographs are in excellent condition. I took a tissue and wiped off the surface dust, but have not disassembled or attempted to clean them more thoroughly. There often appears to be a bit of dust behind the glass of the framed tintypes.

There is a more detailed individual description of each photograph below. All sizes given are approximate. #1 A young woman in a red and green tinted striped dress or robe, gold tinted earrings and rings, pink tinted cheeks and lips.

Cased under glass with a decorative gold-colored frame. #2 A woman in an 1860s style dress with stripes and polka dots. Pink tinted cheeks, gold-tinted brooch and ring. Her left arm rests on a covered table.

#3 A young woman in a dress with a gathered bodice and striped sleeves. The dress rises low on her shoulders. She is seated in an ornately carved chair. Gold tinted earrings and ring, silver tinted necklace. #4 A woman in a belted dress with gold tinted earrings brooch, belt, and ring.

Wearing the black lace fingerless gloves known as'mitts,' with a design on them. #5 An older woman wearing a dress with a white collar, with gold-tinted spectacles, brooch and belt, cheeks tinted pink. #6 A bearded man wearing a hat, a jacket, a vest, shirt with a large bow tie. #7 A man with a mustache and goatee wearing a jacket, vest, shirt with a tie/cravat. #8 A woman in a dress with a high decorative lace collar.

#9 Full length portrait of an older man with a long beard wearing a suit, seated next to an older woman wearing a long checkered dress with a dangling scarf around her neck. She is holding a folded fan. There are large beads on top of her head. Her hand rests on his.

There is a photographers backdrop behind them. The subjects are identified in this photograph as Great Grand Pa and Ma Cambridge.

#10 A full-length portrait of a young man in a suit with a bow tie. Studio backdrop with Greek/Roman temple design behind him, his left arm resting on an upholstered chair, right hand behind his back. #11 A full-length portrait of a young man in a suit with a bow tie. Sitting in a chair made of what looks like roots with what appears to be straw on the floor under his feet. #12 Two young children, a girl and a boy, sitting on two chairs next to each other, the girl with her hands in her lap, the boy with his right hand on the girls left leg.

The girl in a dress with a belted waist, the boy in long pants, long sleeve shirt with a large collar. The childrens cheeks are tinted pink. The item "BIG LOT of Hand-Colored Tintype Portrait Photographs from Civil War-Era c. 1860's" is in sale since Monday, July 9, 2018.
