Civil War Confederate Tintype Photo 25th South Carolina Buckle Breastplate ID

  
White of the Eutaw Regiment, the 25th South Carolina. White was the Captain of Company E, Beauregard Light Infantry. The image depicts either Joseph S. Hanahan or Asher J Smyth. Larry thought the person pictured was of some relation to Davis, and Hanahan was related through marriage. But, the tintype clearly depicts a Quartermaster Sargeant, which Hanahan never was, at least as far as I can tell. Smyth was Quartermaster Sargeant for most of the war before being promoted near the end. This soldier is wearing an oval South Carolina buckle with round South Carolina Palmetto breastplate. He is holding what appears to be an early rifle, maybe a Harper's Ferry? Great image with strong provenance and history!
