This is an authentic, original 1850s-1860s Civil War Era Ambrotype portrait of a young gentleman, captured directly onto a sheet of glass and housed in its stunning, original stamped brass mat and preserver frame. The visual contrast is sharp, crisp, and beautifully preserved.

&####127969; THE HOUSING HISTORICAL PROVENANCE. What makes this specific piece an absolute treasure is WHERE it was found. This photograph was recovered directly from the dark basement of the historic structure at 129 Lake Rd, Ruscombmanor Township (Fleetwood, PA 19522). This very building served the community as a historic, neighborhood one-room public schoolhouse built all the way back in 1886!

While the schoolhouse was built a few decades after the ambrotype era, it was common practice for early local families and teachers to store precious community heirlooms and ancestral photographs inside these historic educational hubs. Whether this man was a local Ruscombmanor Township pioneer, a Civil War veteran, or a relative of an early Berks County schoolteacher, his face has survived the test of time inside that schoolhouse basement.
