Condition as seen; CDV in. Album page of Sgt John F Kirkwood 10th Maryland Vols. The Tenth Regiment of Infantry, Maryland Volunteers, was organ- ized at Baltimore, Md. During the months of June and July, 1863, to serve six months under the President's proclamation of June 15th, 1863. The 10th Regiment was sent to Harper's Ferry, Va.

Shortly after its organization, and utilized in the performance of duty relating to guarding the lines of communication on the Upper Poto- mac. On the 18th day of October, 1863, the 10th Regiment of Infantry, Maryland Volun- teers, with the 34th Massachusetts Infantry, Minor's Indiana Battery of Light Artillery and Cole's Battalion of Maryland Cavalry attacked and drove out of Charlestown, Va.

The Confederate Brigade of Imboden's Confederate Mounted Infantry, Artillery and Cavalry, who had captured the 9th Regiment of Infantry, Maryland Volunteers. The attack and pursuit continued all day and only closed at nightfall. The death casualties in this regiment were as follows, viz.

The regiment was mustered out of the military service of the United States on the 29th day of January, 1864, by reason of expiration of term of service.
