Johnson, Company K, 149th Pennsylvania Volunteers 2nd Bucktails. Johnson was with the regiment at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863 where his company was deployed as skirmishers to meet the rebels coming from the west. After the First Army Corps began falling back, Capt. Johnson's company again formed as skirmishers along Seminary Ridge as remnants of the corps fell back through town. It was there on Seminary Ridge where Captain Johnson, along with his second in command was taken prisoner. Johnson spent most of his time in captivity in Macon, Georgia as well as Columbia, South Carolina. This image is identified through "History of the 149th Pennsylvania Volunteers" by Matthews, and a copy also housed in the Ronn Palm Collection in Gettysburg, PA. The item "Civil War CDV of Capt.
