This is a "private printing" by the Quill Club of New York. Two hundred and fifty copies are printed for The Quill Club of New York upon the occasion of its Lincoln Meeting, February 15th, 1916. The heart of this book are two tipped-in real photographs from the original glass negatives. The first photograph measures 3 1/8" by 4 ¼" and was taken by C. German's Springfield Gallery on February 9, 1861.
It was two days before Abraham Lincoln's Inaugural Journey to Washington City. The second tipped-in real photograph depicts Col Elmer Ellsworth of the 11.New York Infantry and was taken by Matthew Brady's National Photographic Portrait Galleries. Measuring 2 1/8" by 3 ¼", this photograph is in very good original condition.
Col Ellsworth was a good friend of President Lincoln and the first casualty of the Civil War. This book is in very good condition with some slight edge bruising. It measures 7 ½" by 10" and this menu was served on Lincolns birthday. The two pieces are almost completely separated and there are missing corners. Published in 1922 by Charles Scribner's Sons, this small book contains 46 pages and was written by Mary Raymond Shipman Andrews. It first appeared in Scribner's in July 1906.It depicts Lincoln writing and delivering the Gettysburg Address. Soon after the speech he comforts a Confederate Captain as he was dying in a prison hospital.
The Captain, who does not recognize the President, praises the Address as "one of the great speeches in history". This tightly bound book has toning to the title page caused by the original engraving of Lincoln talking to the Colonel. There also is some light staining to the cover..
