Antique CIVIL War Sword Solder Photo Album Hobart College Geneva Ny Thompson

  
Offered is a wonderful old 1860s photo album containing 26 sepia toned cdv's, It has 40 frames. Many of the photos have penciled in names, mostly of the Thompson family and Geneva NY photographers. Some frames have names but no photos, where they were removed at some point. There are named photos of 3 Civil War solders in the album. One with the sword and camp scene named Richard Hunt or Hurt. There where a number of soldiers serving in NY units by this name. He holds a Cavalry sword. Another shows a young man dressed as a soldier and captioned Almon Stoutenburg in soldiers clothes taken just before going to Civil War. I could not find a reference to him serving. There is another photo of him later in the album. The 3rd soldier is of a man and his brother Chas and Dewitt Thompson. The older man is missing an arm, signs of being wounded in action? No Dewitt Thompson served in NY units that I could find but there were 3 different Chas Thompson's whom served in NY units during the war, the 35th, 37th and 111th NY regts. Album also contained at least 4 photo of men listed as doctors.

I believe these men were professors, possibly at Hobart College. 2 photos remain and a 3rd has a Ed Thompson listed as a Fisher Medical Student.

This looks a great research project between the soldiers and professors. Some exterior rubbing and wear, 2 good clasps.

Binding broken with frames loose in sections inside. Some frame wear and damage, photos generally good, a bit faded, light foxing. It measures 4 3/4"w x 6" x 2. Failure to read full description may result in delays and misunderstandings. I do not set rates and cant afford to absorb these costs, being a small operation.
