Pair of Large, Framed Alexander Gardner Civil War Photographs of Gettysburg Dead

  
For your consideration is this fantastic framed pair of original albumen photographs that were originally included in Alexander Gardner's iconic Photographic Sketchbook of the Civil War. The previous owner had these photographs custom framed with Tru Vue museum glass. The clarity is simply exceptional and looks much better in person. The entire frame measures 30" by 21". The first photograph is on an Incidents of the War mount and is titled "A Sharp-Shooter's Last Sleep, at the Battle of Gettysburg". Negative by James F Gibson, Positive by Alexander Gardner. Has 1863 Congress date along the bottom.

Some slight foxing on the mount, and a few small light marks on the print, just to the right of his gun. The entire mount measures 11" by 9", and the photo measures 8 3/4" by 6 3/4".

The bottom photograph is on a Taylor & Huntington mount and is taken from the original Alexander Gardner negative. This is titled "Dead Rebel Sharpshooter at Gettysburg". The image is in EX- condition with a few small marks and tiny scratches. Extremely sharp and one of the best copies of this photograph I have seen for sale. The mount is VG with foxing and some corner wear.

The mount measures 11" by 9", and the image measures 8 3/8" by 6 3/8". A truly rare chance to own this impressive display of two iconic Gettysburg photographs. Would be the highlight in any Gettysburg or Civil War collection.
