Nice early quarter plate Ambrotype in ruby style, in leather covered case, on which the top bar on the image side is missing, not the velvet band but the top piece of wood. No other damage to note. Nicely preserved quarter plate, shows George W Current (by appearances, unusually old for being a soldier, and records show Current was about 45 when this image would have been taken) standing in frock coat with rifle and bayonet, bummer's cap and etc. Obituary for him is pinned to the velvet side. Included is his wife's obituary. No mention of his service is referenced, but this article was pinned to the case when I got it, and the other one is for his wife, and mentions him also. This man was born in Harrison County VA and thence WV after the partition of the state, lived and died in Mt Pleasant Indiana it seems according to the article pinned to the case. Online census info finds a George W. Current in White River, Randolph County IN, in 1870, born in 1818. Its the same man for sure, dates match up.
