Private Samuel Boyer served 3 years with the 13th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, which saw service in the Chickasaw Bayou Campaign near Vicksburg, Mississippi, taking heavy losses in the Assault of Dec 29, 1862. Private Boyer was a native of historic Dixon, Lee County Illinois and a member of Lee County's Company A of the 13th Illinois. An Original family photo of Private Dixon in uniform, copied circa 1880s from his wartime image. The chestview 6 x 4 cabinet photo shows a fierce looking young soldier.
