CIVIL WAR SERGEANT AND WIFE Cased 1/4 Plate Ambrotype

  

This is a cased 1/4 plate ambrotype. (3 1/2" x 4 1/2") overall. The image shows a Civil War soldier with his wife.

His coat buttons are tinted gold. His wife's earrings, broach, belt buckle and ring are all tinted gold. The image has very good tone and contrast. I see no loss to the imulsion.

The case has overall usual wear for one of this period. The inner and other spines have been repaired. The outer spine is fairly well done. The inner spine has some tearing, however, front and back are well connected and the case is overall solid.
