Listed is a great quarter plate ambrotype photo of a Civil War Soldier holding a pepperbox pistol. I haven't seen many Civil War photos of soldiers holding these pistols. The area is slightly darker but you can still see the pistol. This soldier also has a medal or ribbon pinned to his chest. Under magnification using a loop it appears to be a shield with tinted blue on top & red vertical stripes at the bottom.
He has tinted cheeks & his face is very clear. He also wears a printed neckerchief & forage cap or kepi. This photo has never been offered before & has been in my collection for some years! This photo was in a dirty, broken up case & probably would have done more damage as time went by. I took this photo out & put it in this beautiful case years ago!
There is only one flea bite on one corner & a slight mini crack on the side where it closes otherwise great!! The brass mat is perfect & the cushion is nice!! A rare Civil War Photo!!
