Very nice CDV of a young teenage Civil War Union Enlisted sailor taken in Troy Ohio by A. Miller and identified in period ink on the front as Ernest Roney. Laid Down: 1862, Launched: 18 Feb 1863, Commissioned: 18 Feb 1864, Decommissioned: 24 Jul 1865 May also be the same: PVT ERNEST C RONEY, 8TH REGIMENT, OHIO CAVALRY CO L 44th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Organized 12 Sep 14 Oct 1861 at Springfield, Ohio (just 25 miles away from photo location of Troy, Ohio).

Mustered in for three years under command of Colonel Samuel A. The 44th Ohio Infantry ceased to exist on 4 Jan 1864 when its designation was changed to the 8th Ohio Cavalry. 8th Ohio Cavalry, Co A Formed 4 Jan 1864 from among members of 44th Ohio Inf.
