C 1860 s NC BOY in CIVIL WAR BATTLE SHIRT, holds PHOTO, US FLAG BACKDROP tinted. Circa 1860s Antique Ambrotype in Case; Portrait of a patriotic boy in Civil War Battle Shirt and Kepi.

He appears to be holding a photograph. Great US American Flag backdrop. There is light red and blue tint to the boy, uniform, and flag.

Ambrotype is housed in a case with a gold gilt, embossed US Flag on it's front cover. Previous owner noted the image was found in an estate in a small town in North Carolina located just north of the South Carolina border. Not sure if this is a Confederate image as both sides recruited in this area. The visible part of the flag's canton of stars appears to be an unusual pattern and during the earliest part of the war ie.

The era of ambrotype production, the Confederacy was using flags that much more resembled Union flags than the ones they later produced. Approximate case size is 2-3/8" x 2-7/8".
