Here we offer a Civil War-era tintype photograph of a caped Union cavalry officer, framed in a period 19th century indigo velvet mourning frame under. Wavy glass, which is the kind of sheet glass made prior to modern methods, featuring visible imperfections and a slight wavy lay. Original velvet is evenly worn around the perimeter and metal is darkened. Some paper has chipped off the wood on the back, which features a wall hanger. The rectangular union belt buckle is post-war issue, so this is either a veteran or a recruit during Reconstruction.

Tintype measures approximately 3.25 x 2.25-inches; frame m easures approximately 5.5 x 4.5-inches.
