Wonderful, Inscribed Presentation LEATHERBOUND 10 Volume Set of The Classic 1913 (Over 3500 Pages), "MILLER'S PHOTOGRAPHIC HISTORY OF THE CIVIL WAR". One of the Finest, Best-Known, Most Complete Photographic History Sets of the Civil War!! DESCRIPTION: This listing is FOR THE ENTIRE, COMPLETE ORIGINAL 10 VOLUME SET.
One of the most classic sets, with incredible original photographic content. If a photo is not in here it probably does not exist. This set was put out in 1913 during the 50th anniversary celebration of the Civil War.
THIS IS THE SCARCER, NICER LEATHERBOUND SET, not the blue canvas bound trade set. This set was inscribed in ink in the front, which I have never seen: To Bess from Cleve. Each volume was dedicated to a particular subject, for example FORTS & ARTILLERY, CAVALRY, PRISONS & HOSPITALS, ARMIES & LEADERS, 2 YEARS OF GRIM WAR, THE DECISIVE BATTLES, ETC. This is a wonderful, complete set. Has the widest volume of Civil War photos that you will find anywhere. Also, a full text and descriptions on the photos. The content of each volume is outlined in the Table of Contents in each volume. NO CIVIL WAR LIBRARY SHOULD BE WITHOUT THE SET!! Information is presented in a great and interesting text. Each of the 10 volumes contains more than 350 pages, for a total of more than 3500 pages in the set.
Many of the photos are full page, and there are literally thousands of photos in the set. Each volume has a classy early cover with leather bindings. Some dry spots on parts of the leather.
Bindings are tight in all, except for 1 that is loose. Pages are excellent for the age. Volumes are large, measuring 8 1/2" x 11". THIS WAS (AND IS) A VERY IMPORTANT ORIGINAL BOOK SET ON A VERY INTERESTING HISTORICAL SUBJECT, AND ONE OF THE BEST CONTEMPORARY PHOTO HISTORIES OF THE CIVIL WAR THAT EXISTS. A HARD TO FIND EARLY, CIVIL WAR PHOTOGRAPHIC HISTORY SET. Would make a great gift for the collector or historian in your family, especially Civil War military enthusiasts or simply US history enthusiasts. The few attached scans and the limited space for description will not do this justice, but hopefully it will provide an indication. I can assure you that you will be pleased with the rarity and volumes and detailed contemporary period content in them! 10 volumes are very heavy!
