Carr - Industrialist, Duke University, Carrsboro namesake. We are very pleased to offer an original cabinet photo of the 1910 Robert Fulton Webb Camp #818 UCV meeting.

This is a large original antique photo in sepia tone mounted on the original card stock. The photo pictures veterans from various North Carolina units in Camp Webb. The UCV #818 notably had several Gettysburg and Appomattox Courthouse vets. Carr was the commander of the North Carolina UCV and he is seated in the first row on the far right.

Julian Carr was at Appomattox Courthouse in 1865 and became an industrialist, philanthropist, and eventually a financial backer of the Chinese Revolution! He notably helped finance the founding of and donated the land that is now Duke University.

He also brought electricity to his manufacturing ventures which later was named the city of Carrboro in his honor. Several other notable veterans in RF Webb Camp are found online such as N. Gutherie, John Wesley Pearsall, Elbert A. FEB 26/10 " On reverse in handscript: "Durham N.

Size: Image 13 1/2" x 7" card stock: 14 3/4" x 8 1/4". We have only found one other instance of this photograph which has been donated as of 2014 to a Civil War museum. Several of the soldiers display medals, rings and ribbons. This photo has a great quality as several of the vets rest arms on each other with an air of congeniality. This photo nicely shows each mans face clearly in this large image.

With research we are sure that several of those pictured will reveal important men in North Carolina history. This would be a great addition to any Civil War/ War between the States collection. CONDITION: The card stock does show wear as shown in the pictures but the image is in overall good shape.

There is some fleabites around the perimter of the image as shown in the pictures. There is one small surface scuff as shown in close up picture 7.
