Two original CDVs of Jasper B. Gardner and his wife Mary wearing her mourning dress.. Jasper enlisted September 2,1861, and was a private in 47th PA Infantry, Co. He was killed Oct 19,1864 at Cedar Creek, Virginia. He was the son of Champlin and Eunice Gardner.

On the back of the CDVs is written, "Jasper Gardner, son of Champlin" and "Wife of Jasper Gardner, Mary". It's probable that Mary was dressed in mourning for Jasper, and her photo was taken after Jasper was killed.

If the photographer already had an earlier negative of Jasper on file she would have had this pair of CDVs made on the same day, possibly on the anniversary of his death. Both CDVs are 4" x 2.5" and in very good antique condition.
