Medical Polymelia Civil War Veteran Madison North Carolina NC CDV Photo Album

  
Offered - Antique photo album with 43 photographs. Inscribed on the title page is Sidney C. A search revealed a Sidney C. Anderson fought for some North Carolina Confederate Units during the Civil War. There are no photographs of men in uniform.

A few of the photographs are identified or signed but not many. Most of the photographs are from various North Carolina locations and I believe there are 2 from Pennsylvania, 1 from Georgia, 1 or 2 from Missouri and 1 or 2 from Alabama. The highlight of the album is a photograph of what appears to be a child with a rare medical condition known as Polymelia, or the growth of additional limbs. It appears that the child had an additional non-functioning arm above the left arm which can be seen behind.

The photograph was shot by C. I've never seen another antique image of this condition and research shows very little history other than more recent occurrences. I left the image with the album in the case that someone can potentially identify the child or additional information through some of the clues the album may hold. Civil War (Confederate) (1861 - 1865). Age - Most of the images appear to be from the 1870's but a few appear to be 1860's. Check out my other listings.
