This is an Original Civil War Era Ambrotype of a Nude Female Laying on her side. It is 1/4 plate in size (about 3 1/2 inches by about 2 3/4 inches). It is in an original case, which I believe to be original to the image.

However, the case does not have its cover and it is very worn. I estimate that the Ambrotype was taken sometime between 1859 to around 1862, but it could be a bit later depending on when the photographer who took the image used up his supply of Ambrotypes and went to making Tintypes.

The image itself is dark, the pictures I took of the image show it to be lighter than it appears when you hold it in your hand. The brass frame on the outside of the image has some of corrosion on it. This type of image is quite rare.
