YOUNG UNION CIVIL WAR SOLDIER STANBERRY, MO Missouri -Original Pastel Painting

  
Handsome hand painted portrait of young Union soldier in 1861. I believe this to be Jonathan Henry Carothers of Stanberry, MO. This painting comes with a small note under the glass bottom right with the soldiers name, location, and date of painting. I can't make out the last name in that note but I have little doubt I found the match. Young man Carothers was born in 1846 and enlisted in the Union army at just 15 years of age in 1861. That would match up perfectly with date in the note. Carothers is also from Stanberry as the note mentions. The portrait is pastel on paper and has survived beautifully.

It is nicely matted and framed. Portrait is 16 x 13 inches and the frame is 29 x 26 1/2 inches. If you're a Civil War buff, particularly one from MO you will enjoy having this piece on your wall for life! It's very well executed and really is a joy to look at.
