EARLY PHOTOGRAPH OF THE FRONT OF GENERAL ROBERT E. LEE HOME ONLY 25 + YEARS AFTER LEE SIGNED THE SURRENDER, ENDING THE CIVIL WAR. LARGE VASES ARE SEEN OUT OF THEIR HISTORICAL POSITIONS AT THE FRONT OF THE HOME. THE FRONT STAIRS ARE NOT VISIBLE, BELOW THE LANDSCAPING AT THE TIME.

AN ELABORATE DOUBLE WIRE SUPPORT LADDERED BRACE IS VISIBLE THAT IS ANCHORED NEAR THE RIGHT SHRUB EXTENDING UP IN THE AIR TO SOMETHING BEHIND THE CAMERA LENS. THE NEGATIVES HAS AN NOISE ARTIFACT IN THE SAME AREA NEAR THE WIRE SUPPORT BRACE. Arlington House is the historic family residence of Robert E. Lee, commander of the Confederate Army.

Though offered command of the U. Lee resigned his commission on April 20, 1861 and joined the Confederate States Army.

With Arlington House on high ground overlooking the capital, the government of the United States knew it must occupy the mansion or be left in an untenable military position. Civil War, the mansion was used as a U. Army headquarters and its grounds were later selected as the site of Arlington National Cemetery, in part to ensure that Lee would never again be able to reside there. Located in Arlington County, Virginia.

It is situated in the middle of Arlington National Cemetery, overlooking the Potomac River and the National Mall in Washington, D. CONDITION IS EXTREMELY FINE THROUGHOUT WITH A PENCILED NUMBER ON THE REVERSE ALONG WITH A SMALL SPOT PERIOD ALBUM RESIDUE. SHARP FOCUS WITH VERY GOOD CONTRAST. LOTS OF INTERESTING DETAILS CAN BE SEEN.
