Visible in this image, formerly attributed to Mathew Brady, is the camp of the 44th New York outside Alexandria, Virginia, taken between 1863 and 1865. The photographer was on a hill overlooking the camp to the east. The buildings of Alexandria are visible in the background, including the distinctive railroad round house to the right. King Street is on the left. In the camp, each companys street is fronted by a large decorated arch.

Soldiers can be seen standing among the tents at center. It appears trees were planted between the tents, or perhaps the area was an orchard.

The image is excellent with light toning and light abrasions. The 8 1/2 x 7 albumen is mounted to a 12 x 10 heavy card stock. Please see my other items for more Civil War CDVs.
