1863 Uniform MASSACHUSETTS Academy JACKET Civil War AUTHENIC Nice

  

This is a rare find! Gray / bluish wool with black embroidery and lots of buttons. Sleeves have gold & black piping. Collar has black piping &4 smaller buttons.

Each sleeve has 3 buttons. The back has tails and each tail has buttons. One side has 5, the other has 4 (missing one).

The front has buttons on each sides - right side has 13 buttons, left side 8- the right side inner buttons actually are for button holes (3 missing). I'm not sure if this is just civil war era or if the school was part of the militia, it does have a military appearance. It looks like a small man's - shoulder to shoulder : 16"; collar to tails : 28 1/2"; sleeves : 23" ; arm pit to arm pit : 18". Buttons have an eagle with a shield and Mass ACL College Amherst 1863. Backs are marked Devlin co NY.
