6th Michigan Cavalry Capt Don Lovell Civil War cdv
CDV of Captain Don G. Lovell of Company F of the 6th Michigan Cavalry. I have had this in my collection for over 30 years. Good condition, was trimmed for an album. Back stamp is Bell & Brother, Photographers, Washington, D. Commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1862, he was promoted to captain in late 1863 and to major in 1865. This would date this from late 1863 to early 1865. Lovell was wounded at Fair Oaks and Trevilian Station and would have participated in the Gettysburg and Overland campaigns. The 6th Michigan Cavalry was in Custer's cavalry brigade. Lovell would later move to Colorado and then on to the state of Washington where he was department commander of the GAR. This was in a collection of Michigan cavalry cdvs and the handwriting was different on all of them so this could be Lovell's signature.
