This is a Civil War Delaware Cavalry Soldier Gem Tintype Identified. This is a tintype picture memento decorated with brass and gold framing called a "gem". The soldier pictured is that of Corporal Frank C. Townsend who was a Delaware cavalry soldier - 1st Battalion during the Civil War.

He was born 3/28/1843 and died 3/6/1875. He is buried in Old Fellows Cemetery, Kent County, Delaware. Acquired from a local estate sale, it is quite unique and very collectible. The tintype picture itself is very small at just over 1 inch tall. The card type encasement has a plastic covering over it and measures 4 1/8" inches tall by 2 3/4" inches wide.
