Veteran GAR Oval "For Liberty" Photo. Eagle Shield With Ribbon Banner. American Portrait Photography "For Liberty" oval hand tinted photograph with background of Stars and Stripes from American Flag and spread winged Eagle. This type of photograph was common for Civil War Soldiers who were members of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR).

The GAR was a fraternal organization composed of veterans of the Union Army (United States Army), Union Navy U. Navy, and Marines who served in the American Civil War. Photo is in very good condition for its age.

Chip on upper left edge and bottom of photo. Water damage on bottom left edge showing red paint loss and wear from frame. Frame appears to be metal as a magnet did stick to it.

Magnet did not stick to Eagle with Shield. Signs of slight wear on other areas of photo as expected from age and use.

Overall frame is in good condition with signs of rust on bottom and signs of wear as expected from age and use. Photo: Approximately 19 inches (T) x 13-1/4 inches (W).
