Colonel John McLean Hildt, 3d US Infantry, commanded a company in the 1861 Civil War Defense of Fort Pickens and the Battle of Santa Rosa Island, Florida in 1861. During the Seven Days Battles at Richmond in 1862 he distinguished himself at the Battles of Gaines Mill. And Malvern Hill, Virginia, 1862. An Original framed chestview photo of John Hildt with Major's oak leaf rank insignia on his shoulder straps. The 12 x 11" oval cherrywood and gold frame photo of Major Hildt has no glass, and has the original wood backing on the reverse, with a small attached pencil inscription "Bvt Lt Col JM Hildt, Inf, Asst Inst Inf Tactics. Comes w service info showing a standing view of Colonel Hildt. His obituary states he served the entire War and received severe wounds.

An 1856 West Point graduate he served in the New Mexico Navajo Campaign before the War. He resigned in 1870 with rank of Brevet Colonel. General Orders and other imprints. All items are unconditionally guaranteed to be authentic and in the condition as described.
