This listing is for a very RARE civil War Carte de Viste (CDV) photo. It is of the Drum and Fife Band of the 42nd Illinois Volunteer Infantry. There is no identification on the photo itself but there is written in pencil along the back bottom edge... Also included is a photo of the handwritten Title page in the front of the albumn it was found in...

Band of the 42 d ILLS. The only thing written in period ink on the front of the picture is "Fife Major" written on pants of gentleman at far left of photo and J.

Drum Major written on the drum of the gentlemans drum second from right. Please enlarge the pictures as best as you can on this... The drums are incredible (especially the second from right)!!!! The back of photo bears the mark of Taylor & Seavey Photographers For the Army of The Tennessee. #8 Band of the 42d Ills Vol.

The album is in very bad condition... Its value is in the list... Also appearing in the list are 2 other Civil War images #20 Joseph Lahym and #28 Edward D. Both are listed in separate auctions. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER LISTINGS FOR MORE....

I did find the following information on Wikipedia: The 42nd Illinois Infantry was organized at Chicago, Illinois and mustered into Federal service on July 22, 1861. The regiment was mustered out on December 16, 1865.
