I can't quite make it out, but the date looks like July 24, 1863. The photo definitely dates to that time period. As noted above, the autograph book is completely full and has entries that date 1859, 1861 and 1862.
There may be others, but that's what I saw as I thumbed through. Don't let this little book fool you... There are a total of 80 pages (front & back) of entries! The photo measures approximately 3" x 2.5" with actual image measuring approximately 2.5" x 2". Don't let this piece of Civil War from the South history get away from you.They're getting harder to come by. In some cases, photos are enlarged to show detail. The case to the ambroytype no longer has the top and the case itself is coming apart on top and right side. The ambroytype has some scratches but I don't think it detracts from this piece.
