I believe this to be an unpublished and, perhaps, one-of-a-kind image of the Missouri general. While the image appears to be a period copy of an original plate rather than a "from life" portrait, I was unable to find another photograph of Price in this particular pose, leading me to suspect that the original may have been destroyed or otherwise lost to history. In the Missouri History Museum's archives I did find a CDV of Price from a different perspective (see third photo above, though please note it is not included with this listing), dressed in a strikingly similar uniform, with similar hair and facial expression. Even the way the cloth of his uniform folds around the center series of buttons is nearly identical. It is likely that these images were taken in the same sitting, or at least at nearly the same time.
The image measures about 2 1/2" x 3". Some deterioration to the image as shown. This is a loose tintype and does not include a case. If you know anything about this image, I'd be interested in hearing from you. Please see my other items for more interesting Civil War letters, documents, and images.
