This lot features a very rare and desirable colorized tintype of a New York City fireman named John Coyle who served in the 11th New York regiment also know as Ellsworth's Avengers. This 1/6th plate image features a striking pose of a handsome man with a red top hat and red coat, holding a pair of binoculars. I assume this image was captured after his service in the Civil War but I cannot be sure.

It is identified as John Coyle, 11th New York Volunteers on the reverse.
