Ca 1860's CIVIL WAR 6th PLATE RUBY RED AMBROTYPE UNION SERGEANT w/6TH ARMY CORPS. Offered is a Civil War 6th plate Ruby Red Ambrotype of a Union Soldier wearing a VI Army Corps badge on his uniform. This is a seated studio view and it shows excellent detail. The photographer added some color to the table and face of the soldier. The ambrotype comes in a full Union Thermoplastic (erroneously called Gutta Perchas) case designated BERG 1 - 158 GEOMETRIC. Cover glass was period secured to the ambrotype at the corners so no wear or wipes to the image. This one is quite clear and with excellent detail. The case shows some tiny stress cracks at the corners and there are some light chips. Typical play in the hinges and a functioning closure that holds close. Please see all images for details.
