Civil War CDV of First Lieutenant Armed with Sword New Haven, Connecticut
Pictured in this CDV image is a lieutenant in the Union Army. He wears heavy gauntlets on his hands, one of which clutches the handle of his non-regulation staff and field officer's sword with a federal eagle visible in the brass guard. His sword belt is secured with a pattern 1851 eagle/wreath belt plate, with the applied silver wreath visible. On the shoulders of the man's shell jacket are subdued rank insignia.
On the reverse is the imprint of New Haven, Connecticut, photographers Beers & Mansfield. A nice carte with light toning and foxing on the mount. Measures about 2 1/2" x 4".
