Civil War Confederate Georgia 1863 Bible Rock Island Prison POW Owned Signed
This is a great Civil War Bible that was most likely once at the Rock Island Prison, where it was used and signed by several Confederate POWs before being taken home by James Hall of the 3rd Georgia Cavalry CSA (Howard's). It had signatures and notes in Hall's hand throughout, and several other Confederate signatures. Most notable is Gustavus Kirtley of the 5th Missouri Cavalry but born in Boone, KY. He was eventually released and became a miner in Pheonix, AZ. Both he and Hall were released in 1865. This is an American Standard type printed in 1863. It does have some spine damage. The back cover is a little loose but the Bible is complete and retains a period wax paper dust jacket. It has been heavily used and has notes and staining, particularly in the Nee Testament.
You just don't see Bibles with this type of provenance and use often.
