Colonel Luigi Lomia was born in Sicily and came to Texas, as a child, the son of a Texas Unionist family. He attended City College in NYC before entering West Point in 1863. And postwar served in the US Army during the Indian Wars where he rose to the rank of Colonel and was the highest ranking Italian-American Regular Army officer of the 19th Century.

An Original Civil War era CDV chestview photo of Lomia, in civilian coat, reverse ink idd "Luigi Lomia " w 2 triangle symbols (possibly a fraternal society emblem), taken early in the War when he was a student at City College of New York, 1861-2. The lower margin of the photo bears the imprint of J Gurney & Son, Broadway, New York. Minor age stains, edge wear, Overall VG. I obtained this image with a group of City College Class of 1862 era CDV graduation photos. NOTE: Any repair to a paper item is listed. I use only museum curator approved archival repair tape.
