There's no identification with the photo. The photo has some flaking, spots and dust. The case hinge and clasps are still together and work. The case has wear along the edges and the front and back surface. Also the case is worn under the hook clasps. UPDATE---- Thanks to an eagle eye ebayer, I've just learned that this ambrotype is a 2nd generation ambrotype photo.

A photographer during this time period made an ambrotype photo of the photo of this Union soldier. I didn't notice the original mat is visible in the photograph. I'm sure this practice was a rare occurrence but I have no clue on the true value of a photo like this.
