Pair of Carte De Visites Of an Identified Civil War Soldier in 1862
The item being offered is a pair of original carte de visites which picture a Civil War soldier identified on the reverse as A. The inscription on the back is dated Jan. 1st, 1862 at Camp Benton in Poolsville, MD. In one picture, the soldier is standing in his great coat and cape. In the second picture, he is mounted on a horse with tents and wagons in the background. Jewett of the 6th Michigan Cavalry listed, who died on July 6, 1862.
Whether this is the same A. Jewett in the picture, or not, is uncertain. The dimensions of the carte de visites are approximately four inches by two and one-half inches. Details in the two pictures are reasonably clear. Overall, the condition of the two carte de visites is VG+ - F.
