Civil War Stencil Identified CDV 3x Armed Oneida New York Independent Cavalry

  

Fantastic original CDV with rock solid identification. The subject, John J Madole, is shown standing with his regulation shell jacket, mounted trousers and sword belt. He proudly displays his sword and has two Colt 1851 Navy revolvers stuck in his belt. He wears an oilcloth cover on his forage cap. The Oneida Independent Cavalry was a very small unit consisting of less than 200 men throughout its entire 4 year term of service.

They furnished couriers, scouts and acted as headquarters guard during the war. With such a small organization, you can bet that there isnt much of anything out there solidly attributed to this regiment. John Madole subsequently re-enlisted in the 10th New York Cavalry. Image is a tad light and contrast is as seen in the pictures. It will he sent in the pictures clear plastic sleeve. Residence was not listed; 26 years old. Enlisted on 8/29/1861 at Marathon, NY as a Private. On 9/7/1861 he mustered into "Oneida" Co. He was discharged for disability on 5/16/1862 at Washington, D. On 10/29/1862 he mustered into "L" Co. He was discharged for disability on 2/25/1865 at Rochester, NY.
