This lot features a very unique image of Allegheny Arsenal workers from the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I'm not sure if any or all of these women were involved in the infamous blast at the arsenal that killed many workers on the same day as the Battle of Antietam, September 17, 1862. I have sought out items associated with the Allegheny Arsenal in my 40+ years of collecting, but have never seen another ambrotype of workers from the arsenal.

This is truly a one-of-a-kind item. Thank you for looking and best of luck! At age 71 I have made the difficult decision to liquidate a portion of my collection to assist family members.
