For sale is an original vintage cabinet photo that is believed to include members of Shively Post 68 of the Grand Army of the Republic of Huntingburg, Dubois County, Indiana. Each of the Civil War veterans is wearing a Shively medal/ribbon (see closeup photo). This extremely scarce photo was found in Southwestern Indiana. The men are identified on the back of the photo.
My research shows the Shively post was organized in 1882 and disbanded in 1926. It was named for Captain Biram Shively, Co. Who was killed in action at Atlanta, Georgia, on July 22, 1864. The names on the back of the photo are Milton, Brademeyer, Appel, Allmeyer (or Altmeyer), Meinker, Chewing, Thies, Poetker, Garber, Landgrebe, Bill Cook, Jerry Cook, Hoerter and Morris.
The photo image measures 8 by 9 3/4 inches; the trimmed backing is 9 by 12 1/2. See my listings for other vintage items, including other photos and historical memorabilia.
