Antique Photo Album Civil War Victorian 48 Photos CDVs Tintypes C. 1860-1870

  

Antique Victorian, Civil War era photo album. Possibly Maryland origin for the photos, which number 48 and are a mixture of tintypes, gem tintypes, cdvs and gem cdvs. We have an Abraham Lincoln lookalike, some other politician-looking CDVs, some Italian women wearing crosses and many cdvs and tintypes of children and ladies. The album is fabulous, with an raised, embossed leather cover, being of gilt, black and white decoration.

It's condition is remarkable considering its age, and this one is in better shape than most that I have seen. The leather and gold paint are in very good condition with some signs of wear, especially on the corners where they are worn.

The outer edges of the pages are gilt with a floral fore-edged pattern. Latches and hinges work well, although the hinges are a little loose and could be tightened up. The interior of the book has several blank pages on the ends and features end pages with a blue printed pattern. There appears to be some moisture staining on several end pages.

There is light handwriting on several pages, including calculations and former pricing from perhaps an antique shop or private sale. A few small tears to the paper pages throughout.
