Civil War CDV Colonel Robert Patterson Kennedy 23rd & 196th OVI
Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General, US Congressman. At the start of the Civil War, he enlisted in the Ohio Volunteer Infantry and was commissioned an officer. He was promoted Major assistant adjutant general of the 23rd Regiment in October, 1862 and later Colonel in command of the 196th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. For his war service he was brevetted Brigadier General of US Volunteers, March 13, 1865. After the war, he was appointed by President Hayes collector of internal revenue of Ohio and served as Lieutenant Governor of Ohio, 1885 to 1887. In 1887, he was elected as a Republican to the Fiftieth and Fifty-first Congresses, serving until 1891.
