Civil War Soldier CDV of Lieutenant Silas Kellogg Pierce of the 4th Michigan Cavalry. He was the brother of General Byron Root Pierce of the 3rd Michigan and Edwin Pierce who also served as colonel of the same regiment. This image was taken later in the war (after the 3rd Michigan went from the 3rd Corps to the 2nd Corps) when he was serving on his brothers staff as Aide-de-camp of the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, 2nd Corps. After the war he was part owner of a tailor shop and he died in 1904. He is buried in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
